Workshop: Sewable Circuits!

Light up the work with your sewing skills! Use LEDS, conductive threads, and recycled materials to make a patch or upgrade a stuffed animal. There will be two workshops – one at 12:30 and one at 2:30 – reservations strongly encouraged. This workshop will take place at 623 Smithfield Street, with the Recycling is Magic show at 1:30, all for free.

Afronaut(a) presents: CRUMBS

Join us for the final film screening of the festival, Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30pm at the Harris Theater. CRUMBS is set against the background of spectacular post-apocalyptic Ethiopian landscapes, where the film finds a strange-looking scrap collector, Gagano, who has had enough of collecting the priceless crumbs of decayed civilization, including the most valuable: merchandise from Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. Tickets $8

Closing week: Drap-Art

Head to PPG Wintergarden and see over 120 works of art by 65 artists hailing from 17 countries – all made from reused materials. Drap-Art, the world’s foremost exhibition of its kind, made its North American premiere right here in the ‘Burgh – don’t miss it! Closing reception, free and open to the public: Saturday, October 8 from 4 – 6pm.

Fashion Extravaganza

Free and open to all – Friday night, 7 – 9pm

Celebrate radical fashions at this high energy showcase of garments, accessories and jewelry inspired by creative reuse of materials, sustainable practices and transformative processes. This showcase of designs by local artists includes fashions by fiber artists, fashion designers, and also CAPA students who were inspired by Drap-Art visiting artist Dolo Navas while she was residency at their school. Emcee: the fabulous Phat Man Dee. Music and refreshments. Family-friendly.  Cash prizes awarded by the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet Creative Arts Festival: $250.00 for the Best in Show and $50.00 for Best Student Award!
